Qistina – Therapist Assistant at AWWA Rehab and Day Care Centre

“Hi, my name is Qistina, and I am a Therapist Assistant (TA) at AWWA Rehab and Day Care Centre. The centre supports people with physical disabilities and seniors who have been discharged from hospitals and need rehabilitation. As a TA, my responsibility is to empower our clients to be independent so that they can enjoy their daily activities. We do this by building rapport with them, understanding their needs, and from there, working together as a team to help them achieve their desired goals.

While yes, it is saddening to see seniors lose their ability to manage their Activities of Daily Living, it is also encouraging to witness their perseverance to bring themselves to achieve their goals during rehabilitation. Being able to walk alongside them and help them in their journey is an intangible experience that motivates me to be better in what I do. Hearing their little nuggets of wisdom, learning about their lives, and listening to their personal stories – these only cements my decision to join the care sector. Having supportive colleagues who help me clarify any doubts I have in my career as a TA also spurs me on.

I love my job because I am able to fulfil my passion in sharing my kindness to those who are in need.”
