Father’s Day Special – Featuring Suhairi and his son, Suharzri

There are countless ways to demonstrate one’s love for another – acts of service and words of affirmation to name a few. For Suhairi, it is tough love, with a sprinkle of tenderness.

Suhairi’s son, Suharzri – a student at AWWA Special Student Care Centre – is no different from any other children. Mischievous, playful, and a ray of sunshine. However, when play gets rough, Suhairi gets tough. “My son has the habit of retorting. When that happens, I would stare at him and he would usually quieten down. He knows it is the “Daddy is upset” stare. Alternatively, I would disallow him from watching the television or playing the computer”, Suhairi said.

On the flip side, beneath the tough façade lies a gentle and doting father, who wants nothing but the best for his son. Though Suharzri is diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, his life is no different from any other typically developing children. From movie nights to family outings, Suhairi’s mission is to bring joy to Suharzri’s life and what his son said next is a testament to Suhairi’s effort, “My father is my role model because he is my hero”. – Suharzri.
