Karthik, CEO of AWWA commented on Straits Times regarding Census 2020

“For the first time, the Population Census gives a sense of the number of people with disabilities in Singapore – although the word “disability” was not used in the report. This is because a person who faces difficulties in a basic activity as defined in the Census of Population 2020 is not necessarily a person with a disability, the Department of Statistics (DOS) has clarified.” – abstract from Straits Times.

Chief executive of social service agency AWWA, Mr J. R. Karthikeyan, shared that the census’ comprehensive data on the types of disabilities and needs, even though a person may not be formally diagnosed, facilitates planning and provision of services for this group.
