On 24 May, the Ministry of Education (MOE) held Singapore’s first Special Education Teachers’ Fair at Marina Bay Sands, drawing over 500 applicants and offering more than 200 job openings across 25 schools run by 12 social service agencies, including AWWA. The event aimed to raise awareness of career opportunities in special education and support recruitment efforts in this growing field.

With an estimated 350 more teachers needed by 2030, MOE is working closely with agencies to attract talent through enhanced salary guidelines and professional development pathways. From 2024 to 2026, SPED teacher salaries will increase to $3,000 – $7,000, and assistants to $2,000 – $4,000 monthly.

An AWWA spokesperson highlighted the fair as a valuable platform to showcase the meaningful and diverse careers in special education. AWWA Bedok School Academic Director, Ms Chong Baoling, also shared her 20-year journey in the sector, encouraging others to join with passion and purpose.
