Summary: AWWA’s Care Beyond Walls project engages older people with dementia in activities hosted by partner organisations, promoting their mental and physical well-being in inclusive and natural settings. Since its launch in 2022 with three partners, the programme has grown to include 12 organisations such as Faith Music Centre, Save Our Street Dogs, and Qian Hu Fish Farm. These activities include music sessions, gardening, and volunteering, fostering purpose and connection for participants.
The initiative has benefited 82 older people across AWWA’s Dementia Day Care Centres in Ang Mo Kio and Yishun, with plans to expand to 150 participants and increase volunteering hours to 2,000 by 2026. Host organisations also benefit, as their staff and participants gain empathy and skills through AWWA’s training workshops.
The programme’s intergenerational and community-based approach aligns with Healthier SG’s social prescription framework, focusing on volunteering, learning, and connection. AWWA encourages more organisations to join, fostering societal inclusivity and reducing stigma around dementia.
