In a special edition of #VoicesOfAWWA and in celebration of Father’s Day, we shine a light on some extraordinary fathers. Meet Mr Nizan, who is always proud to celebrate his child’s milestones together with his family.

“My son, Hilal and I love the outdoors! So whenever it is possible, we would go out for a hike at one of the nature parks, or simply enjoy a picnic at one of the beaches. In this photo, we were hiking Mount Pancar in Indonesia two years ago! Diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, Hilal’s gross motor skills are impacted and he is unable to walk independently for long distances. Climbing a mountain is in fact, a huge challenge for him. However, he is always game to try anything and everything. We just have to ensure he takes frequent rests.

As a father, I am always proud to see him determined and willing to persevere despite his challenges. The achievement of my child’s milestones are always a cause for celebrations in my family, however small they may be. We enjoy acknowledging each other’s’ successes. The sense of satisfaction from witnessing his efforts bearing fruits, to an overwhelming sense of gratitude towards the people who have contributed to that achievement describes how I feel when we watch him achieve his many milestones in life.

My biggest hope is that Hilal will continue to develop in every way, however small those developments may be and then eventually progressing onwards to helping others, just like how many others have helped him along the way.”
