The AWWA Senior Activity Centre provides recreational and social activities for seniors who are at least 60 years old and who live in the vicinity of Block 123, Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6.
The Centre provides an environment for seniors to gather together and engage. Social activities are hosted by our staff and volunteers. Participants can interact, find support and enjoy a range of recreational and therapeutic activities ranging from games to day trips to dancing and exercise.
The Centre also manages the Alert Alarm System, installed by the Housing Development Board in all units at Blk 123 Ang Mo Kio Ave 6 for emergency triggers.
The system comprises a control panel located at the Centre, two panic buttons/cords installed in each of the household units and a siren installed at each end of the floor. The seniors can activate the alarm by pressing one of the panic buttons or pulling one of the pull cords during an emergency. Staff will respond to the calls; and other residents or passers-by hearing the activated alarm can also assist and respond to the emergency.
The Senior Activity Centre serves as a drop in centre for low income seniors living in Blk 123, 125 and neighbouring blocks of Ang Mo Kio Ave 6 to come together and socialise with one another. It encourages seniors to remain integrated in society through community outreach programmes and social recreational activities, as well as to improve their quality of life and prevent social isolation.
Activities include handicrafts, bingo games, excursions to places of interest and more. The Centre also encourages seniors to stay healthy and keep fit by providing health screening and exercise programmes like line dancing.
