AWWA Dementia Day Care Centre provides maintenance day care services to clients who have mild to severe dementia. The programme, in addition to client monitoring and assistance with activities of daily living, include managing challenging behaviours of clients.
This is accomplished through non-pharmacological methods by a trained dementia practitioner who conducts behaviour analysis on the client, and by guiding/ training the care team and caregivers to apply appropriate care skills and techniques. The Centre adopts a person centred care approach, looking beyond challenging behaviour to identify individual needs and provide quality care. It honours and celebrates people with dementia for the beautiful people they are.
The aim of the dementia day care programme is to slow down the deterioration of the affected client’s physical and mental functions and to maintain the affected client in the community, thus delaying the need for institutionalisation.
We offer structured daily programmes that are specifically designed for persons with dementia. In addition, we provide case management and caregiver services (caregiver training, caregiver support group) as a value added service to our clients.
