AWWA Event: AWWA Community Partners Appreciation Day 2016

This year, AWWA celebrates 46 years of working with community partners that have come from all walks of life creating lasting impacts in the lives they have touched.  Held on 27 August 2016 at Ang Mo Kio Public Library, AWWA Community Partners Appreciation Day 2016, themed “Spirit of Giving”, was dedicated these community partners which include volunteers, staff, donors and clients of AWWA – the very foundation of which AWWA was built upon.

The event was graced by Dr Koh Poh Koon, Minister of State, Ministry of National Development and Ministry of Trade and Industry. Upon his arrival, Dr Koh was taken on a guided tour to view the exhibition and the activity stations. He even stopped by our photo booth for a quick snap.

Ms Janice Ang, Chairperson of AWWA, kicked of the programme proper with her welcome address. She shared that in 2015, over 400 of AWWA activities and events were supported by our community partners – advocating and campaigning for our causes, at their workplace, schools and engaging their friends and family. She also shared that volunteers have clocked in over 12,000 hours of volunteering service to AWWA.

After which, Dr Koh, addressed the audience, he spoke about how each and everyone has a role to play in creating a caring community.

The students from AWWA School put up an instrumental piece and a poem recital for the crowd while our seniors performed their famous hit “Tian Mi Mi”.

The afternoon was not met with a minute of dullness, many parents and children participated in the various stations like caricature, air brush tattoo, pop quizzes, low vision challenge, love language challenge and five-stone handicraft making. As part of the pop quiz at the exhibition booth, participants wrote a note on their own story of giving or how they would like to volunteer. It was heartwarming to see that many came forward with their wish to volunteer.
