Mr J R Karthikeyan (Karthik) is the Chief Executive Officer of AWWA. In this position, he oversees both headquarters as well as community services provided by AWWA.
Karthik comes with a strong track record and extensive sector experience. He joined AWWA as an Occupational Therapist in 2007 and subsequently took on management roles in overseeing the operations and development of several programmes for children to adults with special needs.
In his last appointment as Senior Director of Disability and Inclusion (D&I), Karthik headed the Allied Health Professional Group, Early Intervention and Community Integration Services. He was also the key driver in expanding and piloting new services which includes setting up Kindle Garden (one of the first inclusive pre-schools in Singapore), the three AWWA Early Intervention Centres which now serves over 800 preschoolers and the Adult Disability Home (operational 2020). In recognition of his contributions to the sector, Karthik holds sector related appointments in government agencies and ministries.
Karthik holds a Bachelor in Occupational Therapy from Annamalai University, India and a Master of Science in Fitness, Exercise Rehabilitation & Nutrition Care from YMCA College of Physical Education, affiliated to Madras University, India. He has also attended leadership and management programmes from Harvard Business School, Harvard Kennedy School of Government, INSEAD Singapore and LKY School of Public Policy.
