Community Integration Service
Started in 1991 and formerly known as TEACH ME, the Community Integration Service (CIS) aims to support the integration of children and youth with physical disabilities and low vision into their schools and community so that they can reach their full potential.
This is achieved by teaching clients skills for holistic development and creating supportive environments in collaboration with families, educators and community partners.
Key Activities
School Integration (in partnership with the Ministry of Education):
- Access arrangements for examinations
- Assessment, recommendations, and training on assistive technology
- Consultations and case conferences with school professionals
- Environmental accessibility assessment
- In-class support by CIS professionals
- Increasing awareness on disability issues
- Initial screening in school to assess suitability for CIS services
- Observations to assess the participation of the child
- School transition support
- Training sessions for SENO/teacher
Community Integration
- Career guidance/Work experience programme
- Independent living skills (ILS) training/camp
- Parent / Caregiver training and support
- Peer support groups (Male and Female)
- Skill based groups (Speech club, handwriting camp, adventure club etc)
- Social work support (for clients and caregivers)
- Sports and Recreation
- Therapy services (Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy)
