2017 Model Caregiver Awards – Celebrating Caregiving!

40 family caregivers were recognised at the 2017 Model Caregiver Awards held on 25 Mar 2017 at The Grassroots’ Club. It marked the 8th edition of the Awards which was initiated by AWWA Caregiver Service back in 2007.

What was different this year was that the organisation of the awards process which took on a collaborative sector-wide approach. AWWA partnered the Agency for Integrated Care (AIC) and National Council of Social Service (NCSS) to co-steer the organisation, together with four other community partners such as Caregivers Alliance Limited (CAL), Movement for the Intellectually Disabled (MINDS), St. Luke’s Eldercare and Thye Hwa Kuan Moral Charities (THKMC).

The afternoon started off with fringe activities like the photo booth and mobile massage services by the Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped. Guests were directed into the low-lit hall carrying the air of grandeur which set the atmosphere for the award presentation proper.

Our guest-of-honour, Dr Amy Khor, said in her speech “I hope that all of us will continue to encourage and affirm them so that they will know they are not alone in their caregiving roles.”

Videos that told of the various recipients’ caregiving stories showed how they exemplified the love and dedication of a caregiver; the resilience in the role they play daily to care for their loved ones. All caregivers are truly an inspiration to all and it was an honour to be among these strong and compassionate individuals.
