AWWA School 30th Anniversary Concert Print E-mail
Last Updated ( Friday, 18 December 2009 )

Bravo to all the pupils and staff who participated in AWWA’s 30th Anniversary Concert held on 13th November (preview) and 14th November 2009. The audience was truly awed by the remarkable performance by our pupils and staff on the concert day. Mrs Leaena Tambyah, our school founder, who was the Guest of Honour on the Preview Day was overwhelmed to see all the talented pupils and teachers on stage.

The concert opened with a Malay dance by Bowen Secondary School, our regular volunteer. Followed by a dazzling dance number by our very own AWW School teachers who took us back to the 70’s, dancing a medley of “Boney M” song. Then, our former pupil Sufi made his debut playing the drums to “Chan Mali Chan”.

For the first time in AWWA auditorium, pupils performed in big groups for the anniversary concert.  Classes from the morning and afternoon sessions combined to perform a percussion item, “Liberty Bell” which was performed for the arrival of our Guest of Honour for Concert Day, Mr. S. Iswaran, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Trade Industry and Ministry of education.

The welcome speech was made by Mrs. Sandra Berrick, AWWA President and followed by the launch of AWWA Educational Services 30th Anniversary Picture Book. Awards were also presented to our volunteers.

The concert continued by a delightful number by AWWA EYC group “The Elephant Dance”. This was the first time babies performed on stage! They were dressed in pink and blue elephants and were very cute!

“The Journey” was another charming performance by Project Challenge Programme. There was a fantastic fashion show performed by Special Educational Programme pupils and staff showcasing AWWA School’s uniforms.

The highlight was a spectacular Musical Item, “We Share One World” presented by pupils from AWWA school and EYC. 30 over pupils were casted as animals and were dressed in colourful costumes.

It was an excellent job by the staff in making the trees as props and animal costumes for they looked colourful and extravagant.   The concert ended with a Bang of colourful streamers. It was truly a memorable day!
