Yes! Welcome to the Annual AWWA-Brother Street Soccer Finals 2009 played out at Kallang Community Club on 26 September 2009. The place was buzzing with activity even as the Guest-of-Honour Dr Lee Boon Yang, MP for Jalan Besar GRC arrived with our 5 other MP guests. The spectators were treated to a morning of exciting street soccer matches between MPs and our corporate sponsor, Brother International (Singapore) Pte Ltd. Not to be outdone, our youths from AWWA Family Service Centre (FSC) also pitted their skills against their counterparts from AWWA Teach Me Inc.

Zink! Swordsmen from Fencing Singapore exhibited their “Zorro” skills to the amazement of the crowd.

Smash! The sound of cans tumbling down could be heard when the children threw the tennis balls in the Games Booth.

Click! Brother International’s staff was busy snapping away in their digital cameras and developing the photos instantaneously for the public.

Boing, Boing! Footballs bounced off the heads, shoulders and legs of the Freestyle Footballers from Urban Street Team demonstrating ball juggling to the excited youths, who were learning how to control the balls.

It was activities galore as children, youths and families lapped up the atmosphere as they went from booth to booth partaking in the various on-going activities.

It has been 2 years since Brother International (Singapore) Pte Ltd started their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Project with AWWA Family Service Centre. “The partnership with AWWA has been a meaningful journey for both our management and employees,” said Mr Takeo Shimazu, Managing Director for Brother International. Indeed, this journey has seen Brother’s staff mentoring AWWA FSC’s youth in sports like soccer and bowling, packing Goody Bags for the event, sponsoring the children for this year’s Children Day Party and supporting FSC’s monthly Family Workshops by sending their staff as volunteers and facilitators. 

Quoting our President, Mrs Sandra Berrick: “Companies, such as Brother International, partner us in social service… We couldn’t achieve all that we do without their support.”

With the close of this year’s event, AWWA look forward to many more years of collaboration with Brother International.
